French Progress
Wednesday 26th August 2009
Together with the US and Germany, France is among the top-3 countries with the largest Holstein populations on milk production recording. What’s special is that France is still enjoying significant progress. The year 2008 was a new example thereof. The number of cows on milk production recording increased significantly: by almost 6% to 1,847,614 head. They also showed clearly higher average production; kg fat + protein increased by 2% to 646 kg. That was primarily the result of more milk. In 2008, the French Holstein cow on average produced 8993 kg 3.98% fat 3.36% protein. The average production of the French two-year-olds went up even more: by 2.3% to 604 kg fat + protein. Of the more than 1.8 million French Holsteins, Jeltje 472 has the highest index by far. With +213 ISU this O-Man daughter owned by Gaec du Portail leads the French ranking.
